With the retirement of longtime co-curators Phyllis Melton and Lorraine Hadsell, there has been a search in progress for volunteers to fill the vacancy at Marion Historical Museum. This week two volunteers stepped forward. They are Cynthia Blount and Lucie Edwards.

“Beary Special Babies” born at St. Luke Hospital during the month of November were Mason Abel Killough, Nov. 19; Peyton Alan Heidebrecht, Nov. 20; and James Robert Spohn, Nov. 26.

The family of Ann Boese hosted the annual Thanksgiving Day dinner for descendants of David and Anna Helmer. Ninety-eight family members gathered at the Marion City Building basement for the potluck dinner and an afternoon of visiting.

John and Marlene Goentzel, RR3, Marion, have received the 1998 Marion County Extension Council Appreciation Award. The award is given to an individual or couple who has made outstanding contributions to the county extension programs.

Irene Robles has been selected as Marion High School student of the month by the faculty. She is the daughter of Edward and Vicenta Robles. A senior, Irene plans to attend the University of Kansas and pursue majors in journalism and dance.
