City of Marion Administrator Dennis Nichols said Monday he had negotiated favorably with Ralph and Luella Popp of Marion in regard to an option to purchase property. It is at a site deemed most likely for the proposed new power generating station, which would serve both Marion and Hillsboro. The site is just north of KC Development Transfer Station, which was the former Marion Municipal Power Plant.

Marion’s business district has three new enterprises, all located on Main Street. They are Marion Seafood Shoppe, Marion Auto-Mart, and Blue Waters.

Marion Historical Committee met Thursday to plan for future projects, including 60th anniversary recognition of Marion Municipal Building. Dr. Bruce Skiles, chairman, presided.

Four World War II veterans from Kansas will be featured on “Christmas at War” to be shown over national television’s History Channel during the holiday season. All are veterans of 99th Infantry Division combat during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium in 1944. Kansas veterans on the program include Bill Meyer of Marion and Rick Render of Wichita.

Centre High School cheerleaders Colleen Belton and Dana Miller were presented with the All-American Award at the National Cheerleaders Association camp at Emporia. Those receiving the award are eligible to perform at the Jeep Aloha Bowl in Hawaii. Activities will be held Dec. 19-25. Belton plans to participate.
