The cities of Hillsboro and Marion may enter a joint venture to generate electricity, cooperatively, if the trend continues that was evident Monday during a public meeting. No decision was made. Many questions were asked. In addition, answers seemed to indicate that such a proposition would be feasible.

St. Luke Hospital presented 33 service awards recently at its annual employee dinner. Thirty-year service awards went to ward clerk Jean Bailey, cook Irene Ratzloff, and business officer Lou Roberts. Patti Thomas, R.N., nursing service administrator, and Marlin Buccholz, pharmacist, received 20-year awards. Also presented were 15-, 10-, 5-, and 3-year awards.

Work continues on extensive additions to Eastmoor United Methodist Church. Crews are busy inside and out as the old fellowship hall is converted to classrooms, a foundation is prepared for the new hall on the north, and a lift is installed

Marion High School Swing Singers have accepted an invitation to perform Jan. 11 at the inauguration of Gov. Bill Graves. Graves won a second four-year term by the widest margin of victory in Kansas history. Other state officials also will take the oath of office Jan 11.

Eight Marion County residents have been selected for 1999 Leadership Marion County. They are Susan Cooper, Marion, Tambra Owens and Michelle Becker, Lincolnville, Koni Jones and Pamela Lamborn, Peabody, and Grace Hiebert, Nancy Pihl, and Rod Hamm, Hillsboro.
