Freezing rain that coated Marion with a sheath of ice kept city workers busy during the New Year’s holiday. City workers also dealt with two water main breaks, which occurred within an hour of each other late New Year’s Eve. Electrical service was not affected by the ice and winds.

Marion City Commission took no action at the meeting Monday on building a city-owned electrical plant.

Marion County Implement, the John Deere dealership in Marion, is under new ownership. A group of investors bought the company effective Friday. The investor group includes individuals with dealership experience, said Phillip Lauer, an owner who will be manager at the dealership.

Dr. Paul Loney has been named chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence. A native of Marion and graduate of Marion High School, he is the son of Leona Loney of Pilsen and the late James Loney.

Katrina Hancock, at home in Marion for Christmas, is starting center for the Bradley University women’s basketball team. The Braves come to Wichita Jan. 23 to face Missouri Valley Conference for, Wichita State University.

Robinson, Dec. 11; Gregory David Oborny, Dec. 16; Devin Joseph Regnier, Dec. 18; Miranda Alan Steiner, Dec. 23; Joseph David Legg, Dec. 26; Falon Victoria Crawford, Dec. 29; and Ryan Edward Cochran, Dec. 29.
