The Marion Pharmacy was moved the first of the week to the new quarters—the corner room of the Dean building. The front door has been changed and placed across the corner of the building and other changes were made in the interior. It is a beautiful room and there is no better location in town. Dr. Hereford, the proprietor, conducts a high-class establishment and his many friends wish him continued and increased success in the new location.

Johnnie Schoneman Heard From

Wm. Schoneman received a letter a day or so before Christmas from his son, remembered here as “Johnnie.” It is the first time in eight years that he has been heard from and nine years since he left here quite unexpectedly. He was a 14-year-old boy when he went away and he has been on the ocean a good deal of the time and has seen much of the world. In 1907, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy and is now on the Battleship North Dakota with the Pacific squadron. He writes that he is so big now the folks would not know him and that he is well pleased with life in the Navy. This letter from the long absent son certainly doubled the Christmas gladness in the Schoneman family.

Mrs. Ed Freeland held the lucky number at the Sheldon diamond ring drawing. The number that took the ring was 279.

No, there is no Millionaire’s Row in Marion—we are not troubled with poverty stricken counts and earls and dukes—sort of Duke’s mixture—seeking the hands of Marion maidens in order to get the pocketbooks of the maidens’ daddies. But, there are no Poverty Rows either. For instance: A few days before Christmas some fellows collected in a few minutes twenty or twenty-five dollars to give to any unfortunate ones around town who might be in need. But when they came to disburse the money, no one could find anyone who was in poverty. And, the money had to be returned to the donors. Was it Solomon that said “Give me neither poverty nor riches?” Well, Kansas is the place Solomon was looking for.

C.B. Wheeler has been spending the holidays at home here, and looking after the construction of his new building next to the Y.M.C.A. building. The building is going to have the handsomest front of any business house in town.
