The Big Day

Tomorrow will be a great day in Marion. The Fourth Annual meeting of the County Athletic League will be held, and there will be hundreds of people here from over the county for the occasion. There will be two special trains.

In the afternoon, beginning at half past one will take place the athletic events—fourteen of them—and in the evening the literary contest in the Auditorium.

Five towns—Peabody, Florence, Burns, Lost Springs and Marion will take part—and the representatives of each school will be accompanied by a big bunch of rooters.

The local stores will nearly all close during the track meet in the afternoon.

S.C. Love captured a big white pelican at his place a few days ago and brought it to town. The pelican would never take a prize at a beauty show. This specimen is of the ordinary American white variety. He was a long way from his habitat and apparently stopped in his long flight to get something to eat. The pelican is said to fly better in a strong wind. He does not look as though he is built for flight but makes some great records in that line just the same. Marion Ford says he has seen thousands of them five hundred miles from shore. The pelican has from early times been known as a symbol of charity.

Mrs. J.H. Ogden stumbled on — one of the few board sidewalks remaining in town—on Sunday and suffered severe bruises. It was feared at first that the knee was broken but it was decided to be only a severe bruise.

We have a few harnesses, buggy whips, sweat pads and collars which we have decided to quit handling. Come in and ask for prices. Aulne Busy Cash Store, Aulne, Kansas.

The iron electric light poles on Main street have been painted black. Tally another one to the credit of the city commissioners.

Roe William has been quite sick the past week with the grip, but is much better now.

The Hirschlers are now selling Ford as well as Overland cars and they have a new Model T Ford on their floor.
