Mr. C.W. Thompson owns the building and on February 1, the Grand Mercantile Co., of which Mr. Thompson is manager, will take possession. The location is one of the best in the city. “What ought the town do this year?’ repeated Carl G. Ehrlich. “Well, one thing it ought to do is to fix the park. I take more pride in that park than almost any other one thing in the town and I want to see it improved this summer. By all means, we ought to have a permanent bridge put in. This summer we are to have a 10-days Chautauqua. A bridge is almost a necessity. And why should we keep on spending money for temporary bridges? Is there no way to raise enough money to put in a good bridge before that Chautauqua is pulled off?” Fellow citizens, think on these things.

Tom Armstrong has been appointed constable for the city of Marion by the county commissioners. Good. He is a good officer and as everyone who knows anything about it, knows the office of deputy sheriff does not by any means pay enough for a man to live upon and it is necessary to have the salary supplemented in some way.

Floyd, the little son of Mr. and Mrs. Butler, took his first trip alone last week, going to Salina and Falun to visit relatives. He had to change cars at Herington and wait some time there and didn’t get to Salina until eight o’clock in the evening. But, he made the trip all right and had a fine visit.

A number of young people enjoyed a watch night party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Buckley.
