COMMISSION WINS

Marion will have the commission form of government. That was the decision at an election held last Thursday, by a majority of 118 out of a total of 233 voted. New officers will be elected at the regular annual city election which takes place on Tuesday, April 5. The new form will go into operation as soon thereafter as the new officers qualify. The mayor will receive a salary of three hundred dollars and the other two commissioners will receive two hundred and fifty dollars each.

The petition for a drainage district was turned down by county commissioners Tuesday. The advocates of the proposition were outnumbered by the opponents of it and there will be no drainage district.

The Presbyterian ladies will hold a chicken pie dinner March 23 in the Dean building commencing at five o’clock. Menu—Chicken pie, mashed potatoes, bread and butter, salad, pickles, cake, fruit, coffee. Price 35c.

Hargett & Bryan have purchased a Regal car of the Central Automobile Co., and are now prepared to show prospective buyers all the glories of Marion County’s rural regions.

Ten carloads of water pipes have arrived here and Lon Mott and his men are busy doing the unloading.

A little girl arrived this morning to help brighten the home of Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Dody.

G.W. Hargett moved on the Gloson farm three miles north and one mile east of Marion, Friday. On his way moving, his hay wagon full of goods caught fire. He tipped the rack over and saved the running gears and a few articles. The fire started about two miles from his home.

The Hirschlers have received a 1910 Overland touring car with all the trimmings. It is a dandy and has made a hit. Ben is putting in overtime showing it off.

L.E. Riggs has bought the half section known as the Chamberlain farm. Consideration $10,000.
