Another Building

Chester Johnson will erect at once a building on the site of the old Costello building, to be used as a garage by the Hirschler automobile agency. The building will be of cement blocks, and will have a frontage of 50 feet and a depth of 75 feet. It will be a one-story structure. It will be fitted up with a repair room, washroom, office and every equipment to make it a first-class garage.

A Surprise Party

A very pleasant surprise party was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Summerville in honor of their daughter, Miss Edith, March 11, 1910.

The evening was spent in various kinds of amusements consisting of music, contests, and out of door games.

The house was tastefully decorated with her graduating colors, pink and green.

A three-course supper was served consisting of sandwiches, pickles, marguerites, bananas, ice cream and cake.

All departed at a late hour.

Brick laying on the new Masonic building began this week. The brick used is ox-blood in color and is laid with a half-inch joint in red mortar. The edge of the brick is rounded and the mortar is gouged out and a depressed joint made. This style of brick laying is much used now, and it is going to look fine on this building.

Some Marion boys took a little trip to Florence in a motor car Saturday night and had a tip-over. George Linn had several bones broken and others of the party were more or less injured. It was anything but a joy ride.

Major Fred Lewis left on Tuesday of this week for Topeka to take up his work as Superintendent of Construction on the Memorial building, which the state is erecting. It will be a handsome structure and it will take a year or two to erect it.

Mrs. Sam Freeland’s pet dog bit her very severely on the hand last week, so severely as to require medical attention. The dog was near her chair and she thinks she must have rocked on its foot and that that was what caused it to snap at her hand.
