Boys’ Corn Contest
Boys who want to take part in the Corn Contest this year can get the seed corn free of charge at the Marion National Bank. The farmers’ organization which conducts this contest and awards the prizes at the Fall Institute, furnishes fine seed corn for all who will take part.
A Big Public Sale
Jos. Dvorak had a public sale Tuesday that was about the biggest thing pulled off in this county this year. The sale was held at his farm, known as the Jacobitz ranch, near Durham. Over $10,000 worth of stock was sold. Prices ranged from good to high. One mare and colt brought $375. Pigs brought from $65 to $92 each. A bull sold for $102 and cows went from $45 to $60 each. The attendance was estimated at 500 or more.
A Fine Reception
A public reception was tendered on Tuesday evening to Rev. and Mrs. C.A. Kitch, the occasion being their return to the Marion Methodist church for another year. The fine crowd which attended bore evidence to the esteem in which Mr. and Mrs. Kitch are held here, not only by members of their church, but by the people of the town generally.
The big ditch digger for use in ditching for the remainder of the sewer and for the pipeline extensions has arrived and is in operation in the south part of town. The work will be pushed as rapidly as possible.
Work has begun on the erection of the new waterworks tower west of the old one.
The Masonic building is up to the second floor and the second floor joists will be in in a few days.
Yesterday was the first regular old-fashioned March day we have had this season. Wind and dust, and dust and wind.
Mr. W.H. Morgan, formerly editor of the Peabody Gazette, was in town yesterday and while here made us a short call. Mr. Morgan is now located in the Pecos Valley in New Mexico and is taking life easy on an alfalfa and fruit farm. He has a touring car that he handles himself and he has made trips to many part of the valley.
