Commencement

Marion schools will hold the 24th annual commencement exercises at the Auditorium this evening.

In the graduation class this year there are five who finish the regular four-year course and six who finish the Normal Training course. Of the six who finish the latter course, five are former graduates of our high school and one—Miss Blanche Maule—is one of this year’s graduates. Miss Maule is finishing both courses.

The five regular graduates are: Miss Blanche Maule, Miss Sibyl Martin, Miss Jessie Scott, Miss Grace Danskin, and Roy Frazer.

Members of the class finishing the Normal Training course are Miss Blanche Maule, Miss Mabel Taylor, Miss Clara Ainsworth, Miss Clara Sumner, Miss Clara Frazer, and John Holder. Graduates of the class get a state certificate good for three years, which under certain conditions may be extended into life certificates.

Seek Citizenship

The first Turks to take out naturalization papers in this county appeared before W.O. Hannaford, clerk of the court, on Monday and took out their first papers. Their names were Kostantinos Simon Geraky and Antonis Nikola Mougeanis. They were pleasant and intelligent gentlemen and seemed to be pleased with the prospect of becoming American citizens. They renounced allegiance to Mohammed the Fifth and to various potentates and powers and announced their allegiance to Uncle Sam. One of them is in charge of the gang of men who are operating the stone crusher for the Santa Fe at Florence.

Mr. John Powers is the latest purchaser of a motor car. He has purchased a fine large Overland touring car of the Hirschler Auto Co.

C.C. Johnson will put in a merchant’s delivery service at McPherson similar to the one so satisfactorily operated by him at this place. Four new delivery wagons have arrived and they are now being ironed for double decks at VanLeon’s shop.

Prof. Hargis will not teach in the schools her next year. He will have charge of athletics at the college of Emporia and will take advanced work in the State Normal. Marion will be mighty sorry to lose him.

Carrol Billings, an old Marion boy, a son of Levi Billings, was here a few hours last Saturday visiting relatives and old friends. He is living in southern Nevada, and thinks that is a great country.
