About 70 Marion boosters were in Herington last Thursday to attend the big Good Roads convention. The proposition is to build a first class cross-state road that will be good at all times. The line will be marked from Ottawa to Lyons.

The Queen Esther Circle of the M.E. church will serve chicken pie dinner and supper and hold a bazaar November 25th at the Old Wonderland Theater building. The dinner menu will be chicken pie, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, baked beans, celery, cranberry sauce, salad, pie, plum pudding and coffee. The supper menu is baked ham, ditches potatoes, pickles, jelly, salad, cake, coffee and fruit.

We desire to announce that our Christmas stock of fancy goods, such as centerpieces, doilies, etc. is now in. Mrs. C.C. McCormac.

There was a fire in one of the Elgin Hotel rooms last Thursday night which would have been very serious in a few minutes had it not been discovered. A young man who was rooming there lighted a lamp and then went down stairs, and the flame “ran up” and the lamp broke Mr. Crowder was making his regular round of inspection and saw the light of the fire in the transom and found the burning oil over the floor and the carpet and curtains on fire. He fought the fire alone for a few minutes and then called for assistance and the fire was soon extinguished. Five minutes more would have made a fire that would have put the building in danger.

Mr. Sam T. Howe was down from Topeka the latter part of last week, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Frazer. His many old Marion friends are always glad to see him.

A grand ball will be given at the New Hall at Pilsen on Monday evening, November 20th. Music by Bosh’s orchestra. All are cordially invited to attend.
