State Championship

The Marion boys cleaned ‘em up again. It is getting to be a settled habit. This time it was at Topeka and the victory was the winning of the State High School Athletic Championship. Marion ran away with the Big Score, against all of the high schools of Kansas. Think that over a minute or two, kindly.

The Boy Scouts are getting greatly interested in the camping trip they are to take in June. The camp will be conducted near Salina under the supervision of the Y.M.C.A. The following boys have already made application to make the trip: Alex Case, Dwight Lilley, Lawrence Remmers, Thomas Brailey, Raleigh Bowlby, Willie Constant, John Riddle, Earle Loveless, and Ed Burkholder.

“Marion ought to erect a monument to Levi Billings in Central Park, for it is he who saved it for the town,” said Judge J.T. Dickerson of Oklahoma as he passed that beautiful resort the other day. And, the judge was right. Levi Billings spent his life in boosting Marion, and that Park itself is a monument to his memory. He got but little praise for all his efforts while he lived; indeed he shared the unjust criticisms of all boosters, and posthumous praise can do him no good, but it may be some inspiration to living boosters to know that a few flowers will be placed on their graves.

The open-air concert given by the band on Main Street Tuesday evening drew a good crowd, and of course all enjoyed it. Marion is justly proud of its band.
