Getting Ready

You may want to know—yes, the preparation for the Great Big celebration in Marion on July 4th is going right along. It will be a Celebration Right. And, don’t forget the Flying Machine! And, oh, you red lemonade!

Marion has erected the 10 or 15 Old Santa Fe Trail markers, for the erection of which it has assumed responsibility. There is one of these signs at each turn in the Trail. The three in town are at the Tilson corner, corner of Main and Walnut, and corner of Walnut and Santa Fe streets.

Since last Memorial Day, eight old soldiers have passed from the roll of the local Post to the Honor Roll of the Dead. Don’t forget to honor the blue coat and bronze button today. For it will not be long until all the Boys are asleep again beside their comrades in the silent camp.

Mrs. Tilson and Mrs. Rogers will give a melodrama “Enoch Arden” at the Baptist church Friday evening, June 7th, for the benefit of the church.

In the presence of a few relatives and friends, a quiet wedding took place at noon May 22 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wolf, four miles south and 5 miles east of Lincolnville, when their daughter, Clara, became the bride of Mr. Lee Bowers of Peabody. Mr. and Mrs. Bowers are at home near Peabody.

Ladies of the Civic Improvement League have various plans underway for improving the appearance of the town. Rubbish will be removed from vacant lots, flowerbeds planted and other things of that sort done. In addition, when the ladies start out to do a thing, they do it!
