Good Roads Social

There will be good roads social at the home of Ben Sanders, three miles west and two south of Marion on Aug. 23. The Marion and Bosh bands will furnish music and ice cream and cake will be served for 15 cents. Auto tickets will be 50 cents. Ben has been doing some fine work in the good roads movement and should receive the support of the people in this matter.

Old Settlers Picnic

The Marion County Old Settlers’ Picnic will be held in Central Park, Marion, the latter part of September or early in October. Everybody is invited to attend. John Madden has promised to be present and deliver an address. Other speakers will likely be present. A part of the day will be devoted to storytelling by the old originals.

Attorney Dave Wheeler has purchased a new Buick car. Mr. Christensen, a shoemaker, will be here next Tuesday to work for Wm. Schoneman. He comes here from Iowa.

I often wonder how things are going to be around here in a hundred years from now. I would like to walk down the street some evening in the year 2012 and see what the inhabitants have to say. I know I would meet the familiar old pessimist who would say, “Well corn is about gone. Unless we get a rain tomorrow there won’t even be fodder.”
