The government thermometer Wednesday morning registered 20 degrees below zero. The cold did not seem severe because the air was clear and still and the announcement of 20 below was received with general incredulity. Jerry Forney has the instrument and he vouches for the statement, so it is true whether you want to believe it or not.

Dr. Marner is the possessor of an army surgeon’s outfit that was used during the Civil War. These old cases are not very numerous and already are prized as souvenirs of the great conflict. This set of instruments was presented to Dr. Marner by Dr. Phinney who practiced medicine here many years ago.

The old laundry building at Peabody burned Tuesday afternoon. It was one of the oldest store buildings in Peabody and was regarded as a landmark.

Fred Batt has bought a 7 horsepower Stickney gasoline engine from Pollitt & Hewitt with which to run his corn sheller. The Stickney is fast winning a reputation. It is a great engine and one of its fine features is that it does not have to be cranked.

Mr. Brewer, from western Kansas, has bought the pop factory from the Watsons and will run the business and make Marion his home.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. McFadden of Youngtown Monday, Jan. 6, a boy. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Richardson Wednesday, January 8, a girl.
