J.B. Betts of Topeka, who was the contractor who built the Marion County Courthouse, died this week.

W.E. Moore has rented the Rink Livery building and will fit it up for the manufacture of cement blocks, pillars and other things of that sort. He has sub-leased part of the building to Bob Pyle for a carpenter shop.

Did you know this? Sam Burkholder used to play a harp, and when he visited at some of the places in the western part of the county, there was a fiddler who helped him put on a performance and the people gathered from miles around to hear the music. He is trying to live it down, and so don’t tell anybody about it. If you do, tell them not to tell.

Wm. Schoneman has sold his shoe business, together with the building, to F.D. Hawthorne of Eureka. Mr. Schoneman and family will not leave Marion. He has been in business on Main Street for 26 years—perhaps the longest of any man now on the street.

A rooters’ club, known as the Roaring Rousers, has been organized to stir up enthusiasm for the track meet and let it be known that MHS is on the map. Willard Shanklin, with Hartzell Ray as assistant, will lead this band of boosters.

Miss Winifred Powers returned on Sunday from New York where she has been studying voice the past winter. She stopped off in Washington and Chicago on her way home.
