The Marion boys took the annual contest with the Peabody team last Friday by the big score of 52 to 7. A special train on the Santa Fe took 215 enthusiastic rooters to see the game and quite a number of autos went over. The crowd, with the band in the lead, marched up the main street and out to the grounds in a body.

The pupils of the Seventh Grade with Miss McLeland as chaperone, enjoyed a Halloween party last Friday evening in the Domestic Science rooms. The rooms were decorated in true Halloween style and the games were appropriate to the occasion. Miss Sheets and Miss Perkins, who are the other teachers doing Departmental work, were guests of the class. Refreshments were served.

The county commissioners levied this year a tax of five one-hundredths of a mill for county road purposes, as provided for by the law. This will raise this year $2022.67, which added by the auto tax will give $4713.42 to be spent on the county roads. The Commissioners laid out about 280 miles as county roads. There will be available then nearly $16 for maintaining the roads — grading and dragging — which ought to keep them in good shape. Of course, none of this includes the township road money that will be raised this year. There will be raised by the townships throughout the county this year $33,519.71.
