The people of Marion have been greatly pleased this week over the announcement that President Wilson has given a splendid appointment to Henderson S. Martin. Mr. Martin has been appointed Vice-Governor and Commissioner of Education of the Philippine Islands, for four years at an annual salary of $15,500.00. There is just one sting — and that is the losing of Mr. Martin and his family from town. However, four years will not be long, and they will come back to Marion.

C.W. Thompson has been in St. Louis and Chicago the past week buying goods for The Grand.

Margaret Hill McCarter, the widely known Kansas author, will deliver a lecture December 5 in the Marion Auditorium. Not only is Mrs. McCarter a gifted writer but an exceedingly entertaining and forceful speaker. The admission will be only twenty-five cents.

Harry K. Rogers will play the part of Steve in “The Virginian” at the Auditorium Dec. 2nd. Mr. Rogers, whom you all know well, played this part last spring in “The Virginian.”

In the absence of Mr. and Mrs. T.P. Burkert, their friends are eating Thanksgiving dinner in their Marion home. Those expected at this dinner are Mr. and Mrs. Joe Burkert, Mr. and Mrs. Loren McHenry, the Marner family, the Greasart family, the Wible family, Miss Ola Yost, and Mrs. Wm. Shambaugh.
