At the request of a number of citizens of Marion, a public mass meeting is called for Friday evening in the courtroom for the purpose of discussing the “City Manager Plan” of city government.

A “scouting party” of Good Roads boosters was here yesterday “looking at the lay of the land” in connection with proposition for a great Canada to Galveston Highway. The road has already been logged through Oklahoma and as far north in Kansas as Florence. The immediate interest of the men in the party was in the best road from Florence to Manhattan. A number of the businessmen met them in the Elgin parlors for an informal discussion of the matter.

Because of his interest in the boys and girls, Dr. G.E. Eye will offer prizes for the best tomatoes grown by any of them this season. The prizes are $10 cash to the boy or girl who brings the best half dozen tomatoes and $5 to the second best half dozen.

Chris Hauser Jr. purchased a new Buick roadster this week.

There will be a checker tournament at Tampa next Saturday to which all players of Marion and adjoining counties are invited. There will be no fee and no stakes. Play will be continued during the afternoon and evening.

One of the new light poles was assembled and put up temporarily at the bridge the other day. There are eight of them on hand and they will be placed before long.
