The school census of Marion County for the fiscal year shows that there are 7,805 children of school age in the county, and that out of this number, 5,800 were enrolled in school, and that the average daily attendance was 4,871. The average salary of male teachers in the county for the last year was $80 for the grades, and $110 for high school; for female teachers, $76 for the grades and $95 for the high school. Of the teachers employed this year, 36 are graduates of a college or university; 52 of a normal school; 55 hold normal high school training certificates, and of the remainder, 70 per cent have had from one to two years high school or normal school work.

Last Friday the B.B.B. Club played football against the D.S.S. Club of Peabody. This was Marion’s chance to get even for the defeat in the relay race. They played the best they could but the game resulted in a tie — 13 to 13.

A lot of neighbors and friends of J.W. Moore gathered Monday evening at his home at the ranch, and gave him a real “surprise” party. And he was really surprised. An exceedingly delightful evening was spent together in games, refreshments and all that sort of things. Judge Greer, George McKay, Jas. A. Ray and Ed Baxter were in attendance from here.

The Ladies’ Society of the Federated Church will hold its annual Bazaar and Supper at the Court House on Dec. 8.
