Peabody has decided to build an addition to its old school building instead of erecting a new building. There was a warm discussion over the matter, many favoring a new building and a new site and some a new building near the present building. The addition will cost $25,000.

Fifty years ago on Tuesday A.E. Case “landed” in “Marion Centre, and he has never been away for any considerable length of time since then except for the two or three years when he lived in Seattle. A mighty useful man he has been here for these fifty years, and his friends—who are legion—extend the sincerest felicitations and wishes for many years of health and happiness.

Florence, Peabody and Durham are celebrating the glorious Fourth this year.

Peabody has let a contract for twelve blocks of street paving. Asphaltic concrete will be used. On the residence streets, a four inch base will be used and on the business street, a five inch base. The price is $1.29 and $1.39 a yard. The A. Jaicks Co. of Kansas City holds the contract.

Governor and Mrs. H.S. Martin and Miss Sibyl Martin are to sail from Manila on July 3, and will land at Vancouver. They will make their home in Lawrence the coming winter; Sibyl will take work at K.U.

The ladies of the Methodist Church will hold a homemade food exchange at the Grand Grocery next Saturday. All kinds of good things will be on sale.
