Dr. Branch’s pacing mare, Lucy Hurst, took the first three heats in the race in which she was entered at the Hutchinson Fair last week. This makes three big winnings for her in three weeks—at Lincoln, Wichita and Hutchinson.

Jerry Forney bought the Palace Livery barn several weeks ago and is planning to fix it up for use as a skating rink, for basket ball, and other such purposes. He will remove the interior supports of the roof, cover the wall with plaster board, put down a fine maple floor and otherwise improve the place. Such a place will serve various public needs.

The colored voters of Marion met Wednesday evening and formed the Afro-American Republican Fidelity Club. The object of the club is to promote the general welfare of the Afro-American politically and to be able to do more effective work for the Republican party. The following officers were elected: Albert Holder, president; M. King, vice president; W.L. Harris, secretary; Fred McGee, assistant secretary; and Lem Pinchem, treasurer.

The new bank at Pilsen was opened a short time ago and is getting fairly started. Jos. Vinduska is president, V.J. Bosh vice president, and T.W. Spachek cashier. Other directors are Rev. John M. Sklenar and John Krotz. The bank is in a splendid new building.

The special election to vote on the school building proposition will be held December 1. Tentative plans of the proposed building will be secured and put on display sometime before the election.
