Did you know that the first alfalfa planted in Kansas was planted in Marion county? This is the information given in the latest report of the State Board of Agriculture. The board has ascertained the first alfalfa planted in Kansas was in 1869 by Charles J. Grosse of Marion. He received the seed from the Trumble Seed House in San Francisco.

Mrs. Helen Miesse and Mrs. J.H. Alexander expect to open a Millinery establishment under the name “Elite Shop” in the room east of the Post Office about the middle of next month.

A number of Marion men have made application for a charter for a new National bank here. The application is pending before the Comptroller of the Currency.

Mr. Mike Franta, who was one of the earliest Bohemian settlers in the county passed away last Saturday, Jan. 20, at his home in Pilsen. Mr. Franta was one of the founders of the Pilsen Catholic church and remained a faithful member to the end.

The Burns Citizen states that the Lilley oil well has been abandoned and that the casing is being taken up. Mr. Brandt, the contractor, says that he quit after the drill had gone about 200 feet into red granite.
