december 27, 1917

Though thoughts of war made this Christmas something of a solemn one the day was observed, as it should be, in the homes of the community with “home-comings” and gatherings of intimate friends. Would be glad if we had for publication an item about everyone of those homes gatherings. Let us say again that the Record always considers it a favor when news items of that sort—or of any sort—are phoned to us.

W.H. Carpenter spent Christmas at Ft. Sill with his son, Lieutenant Carpenter.

Last Sunday morning while motoring from Youngtown to Grape to fill his appointment, Rev. Price got his Ford down in a mud hole. Mrs. Price and son Ralph had to assist the Rev. in pushing the car out. Reason: The car was heavily loaded with Christmas eats including a dressed chicken presented by the congregation at Youngtown.

Last Saturday being the birthday anniversary of Miss Bessie Garrison a surprise party was given her. The house was decorated in Christmas decorations and the evening was spent in games. Ice cream and cake were served.

The cantata—“Christmas Great Heart”—given on Monday evening by the children of the Methodist Sunday School, under the efficient training of Mrs. J.N. Rogers, was excellent.

A good and attractive but easy Christmas-time dessert can be made by using a slice of jelly roll, add whipped cream and candied cherries or preserves on top.
