Bond Issue Election

Marion voted Tuesday for an up-to-date waterworks system and electric light plant. Since the result of the election has been known, a better feeling has been prevalent in business circles. Men of affairs who accomplish things believe the result shows conclusively that the progressive element is far in the ascendancy and Marion will continue to advance and that her progress will be steady and sure. Real estate will be a better investment and have a healthier tone and considerable building will be begun soon that has been deferred until this question was settled by the expression of the ballot.

State Rests its Case

The state rested its case in the trial being held in district court. As we go to press, indications are that the defense in the Carr trial will not rest until Saturday.

Had a Great Time

Several months ago J.W. Moore promised the city councilmen an oyster supper and a pleasant evening as soon as that honorable body could be assembled, after a cement walk was put in on the west side of Marion National Bank. This was done last fall. Tuesday evening Mr. Moore invited the council in—they had a great time and the honored gentlemen were mighty well pleased.

Wm. F. Hoch is just in receipt of a check for $28.07, money due him for services during the Civil War. Although it took Uncle Sam over 43 years to get around with it, it is here at last. The U.S. always pays its debts.

The remodeling of the YMCA is going right on notwithstanding the disagreeable weather the first of the week. The floor in the rear of the building is being raised above the high water mark and an elevator installed which will connect the basement with the third floor. The basement has recently been concreted. When the remodeling is completed, this building will be an ideal business block.
