Sunday School Convention

One of the most successful conventions in the history of the Marion County Sunday School Association was held at Lost Springs, Monday and Tuesday of this week. Delegates came from every part of the county, the wide-awake kind that believe in what they have done, are doing, and intend to do.

The M.E. church was turned over to the association for its session.

M.F. Shupe, chairman of the entertainment committee, had every delegate and visitor quickly and nicely located and the visitors are loud in their praise of Lost Springs’ hospitality.

The best talent in the state addressed the session with most of the schools in the county represented.

New Business Firm

Homes & Bitner have established a general repair shop and second hand store in the J.P. Reed building on Main street and will have for sale second hand sewing machines, guns, and jewelry and other goods soon. Anything that needs repairing will be in their line, from a heavy piece of furniture to a picture moulding, and light machine work, guns etc.

Ravelings

For the past three weeks, a section of the hill portion of Marion has been considering the sewer problem. Three ordinances have been passed by the city council, two of these have been published, but are invalid because the copy furnished the printer differed in some point from that passed by the council. This ordinance creates a sewer district in a very desirable residence portion; many are clamoring for the improvement; others have signed a remonstrance against it. The third ordinance on this question passed by the city council Wednesday evening of last week, has not received the signature of Mayor Quisenberry and whether or not the ordinance will be passed over his veto, should he veto the ordinance, cannot be determined at this distance. However, that may terminate, it does not alter the great need for improvement. Every member of the council appreciates the importance of his vote on matters of this kind. It is true that three good residences in this district are being held until this matter is settled; if the ordinance creating the district passes, the residences will be built, otherwise they will not and the town will be less attractive to these parties. This same kind of remonstrating has headed off for an indefinite period our street improvement, has kept the city in darkness and if it continues to be successful where will we land in a few years? Every town of this size and geological formation under it should have a complete sewer system, on this all are agreed. Get together on the way to do it and then go ahead.
