The Big Time Coming

Marion’s fine new three-story stone hotel will be formally opened to the public next Tuesday evening. A fine supper will be spread at ten o’clock after which there will be “a feast of reason and flow of soul,” including toast speeches by prominent Kansas editors and statesmen, as well as local orators. Vocal and instrumental music will intersperse the exercises. Those who “trip the light fantastic” will have an opportunity at the Opera House.

Admission to the banquet, per couple three dollars: banquet and ball, five dollars.

Mr. A.E. Downes has been east this week “laying in” a month stock of groceries and queensware.

Dr. J.H. Morrison, the genial new physician, who has recently located in Marion, inserts his card in the RECORD this week, and orders the “old thing” sent along, also. His family arrived last week and they all have comfortable quarters at the Elgin.

Mr. C.N. Williams, better known as “Clum” is again at his post in the boot and shoe store, having returned last week from his eastern trip.

Last week we noted the reception of some samples of Chase County corn at this office, each ear weighing one and a quarter pounds, and called upon Marion County farmers to come to the rescue. They have come. Jack McClary brought in six ears whose total length was six feet, and which averaged one and one-third pounds in weight. John Templin and Levi Barron have also brought in some very fine samples.

Lockwood & Bowron will shortly move into Mr. Bowron’s corner building, a splendid location.
