Mr. T.P. Alexander, of Florence, leaves to-morrow night for Indiana, where he will next week attend a reunion of his old comrades of the 11th Indiana—the first time he has met with them since the war. The Record wishes him a joyous time.
Mrs. Alex Hutchison returned to her home in this city, last Thursday, from a two-month’s visit with relatives and friends in Illinois. She thought Marion had boomed in her absence as she stood on her east porch and counted nine residences built while she was gone.
We are glad to report improvement in most of our sick folks. Messrs. Tomlinson, Van Ostrand, Malcomb and Capron, who have all been seriously sick with malarial fever, are convalescing.
Mr. W.W. Case, the energetic and enterprising lessee of the Elgin hotel, has undertaken to establish a telephone exchange in Marion, and has met with such encouragement that the success of the enterprise is assured. The central office will be in the Elgin hotel. The estimated cost of the forty lines with which it is proposed to start the enterprise is about fifteen hundred dollars. The privileges of the system will be rented at three dollars per month, and on these terms thirty-eight have been signed up.
Judge Brocket was the surprised and happy recipient, Monday, of an elegant gold watch, the birthday gift of his four oldest children. The Judge is pardonably proud of the beautiful watch and still more pardonably proud of the thoughtful and affectionate children whose love it represents.
The stone work on the six thousand dollar addition to Marion’s Methodist church is about completed, and the carpenters are pushing their part of the contract vigorously. It will be an edifice of which the town may be proud.
A reunion of Ohio people, now living in Marion county, is to be held on the Peabody fair ground to-morrow (Saturday). A good time is expected. All Ohio people in the county are cordially invited to attend. Good music, good speaking, good victuals, and a general good time are the prominent things on the programme.
