Mitten Party
Friends of Rev. Mr. Pracht propose to hold a social for his benefit at the Phillips school house, district 9, in Grant township, on the evening of February 4. There will be a good general supper served, also oysters, and a grand good time is anticipated. It will be known as a mitten party. Each lady present will deposit a mitten in a common receptacle, and pin its mate to her dress. The gentlemen who purchase a supper ticket will each draw one of these mittens and escort to supper the lady who has the mate. It is the most pleasant way of “getting the mitten” we ever heard of.
Dr. C.F. Gray, the painless dentist, who coined money for several weeks in Marion, left last Saturday for Emporia He expects to return to Marion this Summer or Fall.
Eld. Hurlburt closed his five weeks labors here last Friday night. The large Rink was crowded with attentive listeners. The good evangelist preached a fine sermon and sang some of his sweetest songs.
The Record goes to press this (Thursday) afternoon too soon to report the fact authoritatively, but reckons it runs no risk in saying the Miss Lizzie Mehl, the amiable daughter of Mr Phillip Mehl, is now the bride of Mr. J.W. Duncan. We printed the invitations time enough to mention the matter last week, but the Record never divulges its printing office secrets. Mr. Duncan was formerly a Marion county teacher, and is a very pleasant appearing gentleman. He comes from Illinois, at this time, to claim the jewel he has won.
