Good, wide, substantial stone crossings are being put in at three of the crossings approaching the stone bridge, and we understand connecting sidewalks are to be laid at once. Denizens of the “hill’ will rejoice when the work is completed.

Mr. Stephen Jex has become associated with Mr. J.W. Hammill in the marble business and it is their purpose to enlarge their facilities for doing good work. Mr. Hammill will collect all accounts and pay all debts accrued to date of the new arrangement.

Mr. McCain, our old reliable and worthy tonsorial artist, has been adding greatly to the appearance of his residence on north Fourth street. He and his excellent wife are making a neat and attractive place of their home, and the RECORD is glad to see it and commend it.

Messrs. Gillen & Davy, of Chicago, have arrived in Marion county with a force of surveyors, engineers and draughtsmen and propose to make a survey of our county for the purpose of publishing a complete form of atlas maps. Mention of the plan of their work will be made hereafter.

Our big blacksmith brother, J.H. Hoch, has purchased the A.D. Billings corner, east of the bridge, and will at once erect a carriage and repair shop thereon. It is a fine location for his business, and we expect it will not be many years till he will have a large carriage manufactory there. A more skillful or rapid worker in iron would be hard to find in the State (if we do say it ourself).
