Did you ever see a prettier, pleasanter Christmas Day? Bright, sunny, warm, delightful.

Youngtown News

OAO-PIERCE—Married at the residence of the bride’s parents, by Rev. Honstead, Dec. 24, 1885, Mr. Andrew Oao to Miss Amanda Pierce, both of Youngtown, Grant township, Marion county.

Upon invitation there were present upon the occasion nearly the entire neighborhood as guests. Had not the day been a pleasant one Mr. Pierce could not have entertained them, for not more than about half could find room in the house. After Mr. Pierce commenced inviting it was hard for his big heart to let him stop, and while there was little room in the house, we found plenty in the hearts of Mr. and Mrs. Pierce.

About 2 o’clock the ceremonies were performed after which dinner was announced and, oh, such a dinner! Roast pig, turkey, pie cake—well, we will just stop and not try to describe it. Suffice to say, all got enough and there was plenty left. Mr. and Mrs. Oao are a worthy young couple. May their lives be happy ones.

Mrs. J.R. Baker has had a fine monument erected in Marion’s cemetery to mark the resting place of her husband.

The Good Templars of Marion will give a public oyster supper at their hall east of the Luta bridge this Friday evening. Everybody invited.

The weather has interfered but little as yet with work on Marion’s $16,000 stone hotel. With the exception of a comparatively few days, the stonemason’s trowel has been continually ringing.

If the weather will permit, Lewis Laverty will soon have the southeast wing to the Luta bridge finished. By the way, Dr. Hannaford insists upon us remarking in this connection, that the fine stone of which this wall is being constructed comes from his quarries.

Mr. Goldstein, of the Famous clothing house, and Mr. J.B. Miller, of the exclusive boot and shoe house, did a handsome thing Christmas Eve. They bought 100 pounds of fancy candies, put it up in 400 paper sacks, and delivered the whole amount to the three Sunday school entertainments. It was a happy thought, a good thing for the schools, and we predict it will be a paying investment for the generous donors, aside from the pleasure it gave them.
