A “pineapple squash” is a curiosity, which Mr. J.H. McBurney brought us Wednesday. He says it makes a splendid pie, and retains, distinctly, the pineapple flavor.

The seven-year locusts, the noisy but harmless fellows, have put in an appearance in Marion.

Dr. L.W. Elliott having sold the drug store in the village of Canada has concluded to open an office in Marion. At present he can be found at Kalfus & Williams’ drug store until his new office is ready for occupancy.

Uncle John Bonner got mad because we failed to mention his new fence and sidewalk, and brought us a fine lot of beets, yesterday. You see Uncle Johnnie believes in doing good for evil.

The new drink “phoenix” which has been agitating other parts of the State, has struck Marion. The boys say it is a very thin quality of beer. If it is, its real character will soon be discovered, and it will have to go.

Marion was excited last Saturday afternoon by the news that the elder Mrs. Sharp and her little son had been accidentally shot with a shot gun in the hands of another son. It seems that the old lady and the little child were in the garden, at their home, in the southern addition, when the other boy, ten or twelve years of age, discharged the gun in some way at the house. Mrs. Sharp was badly wounded in breast and bowels and for a time her life was almost despaired of. The little child at her side was also seriously wounded in back and head, but we are glad to report that at this time hopes for the recovery of both are entertained.

Lightning struck one corner of Mr. Roger Hannaford’s stable, on the hill, last Saturday night, and splintered a few boards. A new buggy whip which was in its socket in the buggy, was literally annihilated down to the level of the metal-topped dashboard, and from there it is supposed the electric fluid passed harmlessly down to the earth.
