Will the Santa Fe officials please accept our most profound thanks? By an official order from headquarters, which took effect on the first inst., Marion will be hereafter known in railroad circles, as Marion and not Marion “Centre.” This is as it should have been long ago.

The Presbyterian ladies society will vary the “social” business with a packet social at the residence of Mr. Joseph M. Young next Friday night. Every lady is expected to bring a package of something worth at least ten cents. These packages, with their unknown contents will be sold at auction. Refreshments free. Everybody invited.

A neat picket fence has been erected in front of Central Park.

Mr. Sylvester Drake captured a beaver on the banks of the Cottonwood Monday.

We don’t smoke, but if Will Mansfield will bring us in an orange, we’ll admit that that new girl at his house is the daisy he thinks she is.

Mr. Jones, the new grocer, in Mr. Kellison’s new building, starts off well in business. He has a nice clean establishment, fresh goods, and a pleasant, genial smile for everybody. He has impressed us as a worthy gentleman and we wish him great success.

A squad of “noble red men,” with their squaws and papoose, stopped in Marion last Friday. They were from Nebraska, and were on their way to the Indian Territory for a few months visit While here they were objects of considerable interest to those “pale faces” who had never before saw any live Indians.

A fire was discovered in Christie’s bank about eight o’clock last Saturday night and was under such headway when discovered that it was with difficulty put out, but not until it had done considerable damage to the wall, ceiling, floor, fixtures, etc. It is not known how the fire originated, but it was probably the result of a cigar stub carelessly dropped by someone. It was a close call for the RECORD building, and following so close upon the last fire adjoining us, prompts us to move for a change of venue, on the part of future conflagrations, if there are to be any more.

The Jolly Voyagers are booked for the Opera House March 8th. The celebrated Stirk family is with this combination, and they alone are worth the price of admission.
