The 20-odd thousand inhabitants of Marion County are not lacking in patriotism, nor will they be lacking in opportunities, next week, to honor the anniversary of our national independence.

Marshal Brown wants us to notify owners of dogs in the city to walk up before the first of July and pay their little dollar tax on them if they want to save their canines. Dog harvest will commence at that time.

Will Bates was attacked with something like vertigo on the street, last Friday, and was unconscious for some time, but is now around all right.

The Marion and Peabody baseball clubs grappled each other again last Thursday on the grounds in this city, and the result was of such a character that we have room for a more elaborate reference to it than we did to the first game. Our fellows “got there” this time, though we are compelled to admit that the victory was not one over which we can crow very lustily. The game was an interesting one, and was witnessed by several hundred people. The first few innings were rather tame, but the boys buckled down to business and played fairly well toward the close. The ninth inning revealed a tie, but an extra inning gave our boys the victory.

Mrs. Lee, of Peabody, requests us to say to her friends and patrons of Marion that she has rented the building formerly occupied by F.C. Bush, and has fitted it up in fine style for a boarding house and restaurant. She has a splendid dining room and ice cream parlor and is prepared to serve customers to their entire satisfaction at all times. When her friends from Marion visit Peabody, they will always find a cordial welcome and kind treatment at the Occidental.

The Lawn Sociable at the beautiful residence premises of Mr. E.R. Trenner last Friday night was an enjoyable affair. There is no place in the city better adapted for such an entertainment than Mr. and Mrs. Trenner’s lovely home. Their large, beautiful yard, handsomely carpeted with bluegrass and dotted with trees, eminently fit it for such gatherings, while the hospitality of its owners adds greatly to its attraction.

Dr. Righter and Dr. A.E. Wheeler (a newcomer) have leased from Mr. Sharp, the Mineral Well at Marion for a period of five years. They will spend a good deal of money advertising this health resort. The RECORD will be glad to help them boom this great Sanitarium.
