Fine Horses

Last week’s RECORD noted the departure of Mr. S.D. Hysom for Kentucky, where he went to purchase a fine Hamiltonian stallion. He returned Tuesday not only with the stallion, but also with a fine trotting mare. He purchased these valuable animals from the celebrated breeder, Mr. Withers, of Lexington. The RECORD is always happy to welcome fine stock as well as fine people to booming Marion, and we trust Mr. Hysom will “realize” richly on his enterprising investment.

Our New Landlords

We go to press before the negotiations are fully consummated, but we suppose it is safe to say that of all the numerous gentlemen who have tried to lease Marion’s fine new three-story stone hotel, now nearing completion, the Case Brothers, of Hanover, are the successful applicants. These gentlemen have a fine reputation as hotel keepers, and men, and the RECORD congratulates them and the city upon the important transaction which united their and our mutual interests.

The Methodists of Marion have secured a subscription of several thousand dollars with which to enlarge their church. The remodeled and greatly enlarge edifice will be an ornament, and big benefit financially as well as religiously to the city. Its proximity to the new hotel will bring it before the eyes of the traveling public, and impress them favorably with the town.

Blind Boone, who is in some respects a greater musical wonder than Blind Tom, will give one of his wonderful performances in the Marion Opera House July 12. He has been here before and will doubtless draw a larger house than ever before.

Marshal Brown wishes us to notify all persons concerned that there is a stringent ordinance against leaving teams unhitched on the streets, and to warn all such persons that they are liable to be fined any time for the offense. It is a dangerous practice and should be stopped.

Hurrah for the old flag. Hurrah for the United States. Hurrah for George Washington. Hurrah for the Fourth of July. Hurrah, boys, hurrah!

Marion has been noted for its sober, peaceful, orderly public gatherings, and we trust the excellent reputation of the town in this important regard will be maintained tomorrow.

A party of young folks will picnic and swap sweet glances, and have a nice time, and come home covered with chiggers tomorrow.
