A.S. Vance is tearing down the old livery stable he recently moved down on Third street. Strange, isn’t it, that the people down that way don’t remonstrate against this demolition of property? But then hope they will let Vance have his way about this, as he informs us he will probably erect a two-story building where the old fabric stands.

Mrs. Chapman has opened a new millinery store opposite the Courthouse. She is a most excellent and deserving lady, and will doubtless secure a liberal share of patronage.

We neglected to note the recent return of Will Perkins from Chicago, whither he went to see about the new steam pleasure boat he and Taylor Riddle are soon to have shipped in here for public use on the laughing Luta and calm Cottonwood. He says it will be a beauty and will carry about fifteen passengers. We await its coming with great impatience.

While Mr. B. Jones was digging a well at Mr. Tomlinson’s last week, a stone fell upon his head inflicting quite a wound.

Mr. T.A. Mayfield has gone to Rice County to run the culinary department of a hotel. Mr. Mayfield, though a colored man, is one of the “whitest” men in the county. We commend him to the people of Geneseo as a gentleman and a good cook.

Wallace Case is aching to show you the neatest barber shop in this part of the State. Just call around at the Elgin Hotel and he will take pleasure in showing you. Mueller & Apel were the papering artists.

March came in like a lamb and is playing the exit act very much like a lion.
