Marion Republicans are in luck. As fine as were the speeches last Tuesday, still finer, if possible, are to be the oratorical efforts to which our people are to be treated next Friday evening at which time Gen. J.C. Caldwell of Topeka and Col. A.M. Flory of Emporia will speak in our Opera House. Gen. Caldwell was a Major General in the late war, and was conspicuous at the battle of Gettysburg, has held high civil positions since the war and is a powerful speaker. Col. Flory is a magnetic man, who never fails to enthuse an audience.

Dr. Hannaford’s splendid stallion, Altimo, won a great victory at the Topeka Fair Tuesday. In the contest for the Kansas Breeders’ Stake, Altimo distanced all his competitors with ease. Thus winning first, second and third money.

Halliday’s Georgia Minstrels will give one of their best performances at the Opera House tonight. As this is their third visit to Marion, they need no introduction to theatre-going people.

Wednesday’s Emporia Republican contained some further news about our festive former fellow-citizen, Frank B. Wood, who is wanted, you know, at Eureka Springs, for having more wives than the law allows. The Governor of Arkansas has offered a reward for him, and it is said he will fare badly if caught.
