The editor of the RECORD has been the recipient of a great many letters of congratulation over his election to the Legislature, and takes this occasion to acknowledge their reception and his appreciation of the friendship which prompted them.

Sugar is going to be king in Kansas. Why can’t Marion have a sugar factory?

Fred Douglas, the most distinguished colored man living, passed through Marion on the Rock Island last Friday evening. A large number of our Marion boys, on their way to the Peabody jollification, had the pleasure of an interview.

Mother Shreve and daughter, Mrs. Fred Lewis, returned Saturday night from Colorado. Mother Shreve thought she would like to look up a new home out there but she soon concluded that there is no place like old Marion, which she was one of the first three women to bless with her presence.

Hon. S.T. Howe and wife hastened back to Topeka sooner than they intended in answer to a telegram announcing the serious sickness of their servant girl.

The Presbyterian women will give a Thanksgiving dinner and supper in the city hotel, which has been unoccupied since the fire, but which will be thoroughly cleaned for the occasion.
