The presentation of “Widow Bedott” by the Clair Patee Dramatic Company at Jex Opera House last Thursday evening elicited continuous laughter and applause.

If we cannot have rain, we will take snow. It’s all the same anyhow after a few hours in sunny Kansas.

The young ladies of the Newton High School have daily practice in baseball playing. Thought it was proven several years ago that female baseball playing was a physical impossibility.

Father Mullineaux met with a sadly unfortunate accident as he was coming down town on Tuesday forenoon. He slipped on the sidewalk in front of A.D. Billings’ place and fell, breaking the hip joint. He was alone and lay in the snow for a half hour till Miss Nanie Hannaford passing along noticed him and went for help. He was taken home and the limb was set by Dr. Hannaford.

There is to be a big wolf hunt south of town and all who may desire to engage in this sport are cordially invited. The hunt will take place next Friday. No firearms will be allowed. The centre will be the section north of the Whipple schoolhouse.

We have commenced war on the chintz bug and expect to keep it up. Old settlers have informed us that the farmers need to watch the grass closely. Relinquish not the fight.
