The election held in this city last Monday to vote $16,000 in bonds to the Marion Belt and Chingawasa Springs railroad resulted in the success of the measure by a voted of 253 to 97.

Mrs. Smith has moved her millinery and dressmaking stock into the YMCA building. Here she will be prepared better than ever to fix up the ladies heads and make pleats, ruffles, and furbelows and all that sort of thing. In fact, everything in a first class millinery and dressmaking line.

Dr. Piper has had a splendid offer to leave Marion and go to Omaha, Nebraska and take charge of the ladies’ department at the Omaha Medical and Surgical Institute of that city, but he has strong faith in Marion and her mineral waters and has concluded to remain at the mineral wells.

The contract for the building of the new school house, or rather the enlargement of the old one, will be let next week, and work will commence at once. While in Topeka we visited the office of Parsons & Sons, the accomplished architects, and examined the plans, and can assure our people that when the new structure is done it will be one of the handsomest and most convenient school buildings in Central Kansas. It will be an ornament to the city.
