One of the most ferocious battles ever witnessed occurred this morning, between a beautiful white dove and a large black cat, which ended in the death of the latter. The dove was Wheeler Bros.’ low priced winged messenger pitted against their competitors’ high-priced, wall-eyed Kat. The result will please all fair-minded people.

Dr. S.E. Northington, Emporia’s excellent dentist, will be in Marion on next Monday, April 1st, and will remain one week. He will be prepared to do all kinds of dental work in the most improved manner. He is thoroughly recommended as highly proficient in his profession.

James Myers and wife have gone west on a prospecting tour.

The old soldiers now have a real “friend in court.” Corporal Tanner, the new commissioner of pensions, said in a recent interview, “I tell you frankly I am opposed to these $1, $2 and $3 a month pensions. If you are going to give a man anything, give him enough that he may realize he is getting something.”
