The streams centering at Marion have not been so high for three or four years as they were last Friday. The Luta, particularly, was greatly swollen, and the water appears to have been so fearfully “riled” that the fish were in an awful state of perturbation or something to that effect. They came to the surface in great numbers, seemingly in quest of air, and the banks of the stream were soon lined with men and boys armed with sticks, with which they killed and secured many fine specimens of the finny tribe. It was a scene new to even the “oldest inhabitant.”

The Singer Sewing Machine has no superiors. Its merits are everywhere recognized. James F. Carter has located here, for the sale of this splendid machine. Can be found in Mrs. Smith’s millinery rooms in the Y.M.C.A. building.

Some pernicious pilferer is annoying the ladies of Marion by stealing their flowers. She (for it is believed to be a woman, with strong evidence of who it is) picks upon the choicest plants. She who would rob Nature must be in bad straits. The ladies will bear the outrage no longer and unless this perniciousness is stopped, direful will be the consequences.

The first strawberry festival of the season was given by the Methodist ladies Tuesday evening. It was quite well attended and netted the ladies between twenty and thirty dollars.
