The final rail connecting Marion and Chingawasa Springs, five miles northeast of this city, was laid Wednesday. The road has been rushed through at a very rapid rate. The road is first class. The ties are large and good, and the rails of the best steel. A motor and one passenger car for the road are expected daily, and will probably be here before the Record is issued. The construction of the large depot and eating house goes rapidly on, as well as other improvements at the Springs.

A series of excursions have been arranged, extending through the summer and far into the fall, during which time it is expected that thousands will visit Marion and its great health resort.

Now that Kansas wheat is ready for market, it is about time for the railroads to gobble up all the profits by increasing the freight rates.

Col. Hoblitzell, the Peabody brick manufacturer, who has thoroughly examined and tested our brick clay, says we have the finest brick clay west of the Mississippi, in his opinion. The Colonel has had a great deal of experience making brick, east as well as west, and his opinion on the subject is valuable.

The lawn social at the cozy residence of Mr. J.F. Knapp, Tuesday, was a success in every particular. The proceeds go to liquidate the Baptist Sunday school’s subscription to the Y.M.C.A. building.
