R.L. Cochran, editor of the Peabody Graphic, visited Chingawasa Tuesday, and could hardly find language to express his opinion of the place. He was charmed with it.

The M.B. & C.S.R.R. has kindly and generously tendered a fine excursion to each of the Sunday schools to the Springs. The Methodist school, about 200 strong, went out Wednesday, and had a grand time.

Farmers are busy preparing for fall wheat. The conditions were never more encouraging. The ground is in fine condition, and the chinch bugs do not fill the mind of the sower with unpleasant forebodings as they did last fall. An immense acreage will be sown.

Genial Mr. Sacket assures us that the firm of Loveless & Sacket will not be found wanting in all the elegant lines of dress goods and clothing. Read their monster advertisement in this week’s RECORD. W.W. Loveless and Geo. Kerr are both in Chicago this week, laying in the fall stock.

The anti-weed firm of John & John, a sort of John-John arrangement, whose back names are Carter and Leachman, think the RECORD ought to give them credit for cutting those weeds between Leachman’s corner and the former’s lumber yard. Generally, it is a poor job and was done, we think, with a meat ax, but as it is very good for them we cheerfully give them the praise that they themselves say they deserve.
