MEMORIES:   125 years ago

The RECORD is now the largest paper in Kansas except on Sundays. Then the Topeka Capital knocks it out. The “Old Thing” enters upon its 19th year this week. That is to say, it has been published for 18 years under its present name. Heretofore it was published for two years under the names of Western News and Little Giant.

The entire Republican ticket was elected in this county last Tuesday. John S. Downes candidate for Register of Deeds, had the hardest pull, but gets in.

Dr. Coburn, our popular and proficient dentist, has been “under the weather” this week.

Mart Mansfield has moved to Marion from Gale township. We welcome him and family to the city.

Mr. J.C. Watson, Marion’s rustling bridge contractor, went up to McPherson this week, and gobbled about twelve hundred dollars worth of work.

W.H. Ketchum returned the first of the week from a three week’s business run over northwest Kansas. He says he saw no town he likes better than Marion, but that he comes home a court house boomer. He saw so many creditable court houses in counties inferior to Marion, that he thinks it a shame and disgrace that a county like Marion should “put up with” and old trap like our court house.
