MEMORIES:   125 years ago

Next July, Marion county will be twenty-five years old. The event is to be celebrated by a quarter centennial celebration, on the 4th of July. Preparations have begun for it, by the appolutment of committees. The promoters of the affair expect to make it important enough to attract visitors from many miles around, and are counting on not less than 20,000 people in town next Fourth.

Marion is getting extensively advertised through its gasoline manufactory. Mr. Knapp, the proprietor, received a request for a sample iron recently from far-away Key West, Florida, and in a short time came an order from there for fifty of the irons.

That Marion’s band is making rapid improvement as was demonstrated by the excellent music the boys treated the town to on the streets Wednesday.

It is about time Old Santa Claus was locating his headquarters and getting ready for business.

That beet which nearly crowds everything and everybody out of this office was lugged in here somehow by C.A. McBurney, who claims to have raised it right here in town. Squeeze in and see it.

Some hunters set fire to Uncle John Daniels corn field Wednesday evening and burned ten or fifteen acres of the corn; also a hay stack belonging to Mr. Kelsey. And now Uncle Johnny is hunting for the hunters.
