Register–elect Downes will occupy Charley Brooker’s place on Third street. Charley has rented rooms in the Case block and he and his family take meals at the Elgin.
Our tonsorial friend Sherman looks tolerably “grum” these days. His wife is away on a visit.
An awful accident happened over in Catlin township last week, which cost a young Mr. Dohner his life. He was running a threshing machine, and was just moving away from one job to another when the boiler exploded, throwing him nearly two hundred feet distant and killing him instantly. He leaves a wife and a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his terrible taking off.
Taylor Riddle has had a stairway built in the rear of his drugstore to the second floor where he will hereafter have his wallpaper department.
Grandpa Hoch made the bride’s cake for the Whipple-Jenkins wedding last week, and many handsome compliments are being paid him for his excellent taste and fine work.
Ambrose Baxter, son of Squire, while playing “black man” at school Tuesday morning, had his nose badly dilapidated, but Dr. Hannaford straightened out his smeller for him and he will soon be all right.
If you never saw a brick kiln burning you’d better go and see one tonight. But don’t monkey with things out there.
