The indications at the coal hole continue of a very encouraging nature. The cores that are taken out are growing more and more full of fossil substances, including frequent streaks of genuine coal — just such indications as the State Geologist said would precede the finding of coal. The drill is down nearly seventeen hundred feet. Another week will probably settle the awfully important question. We are almost breathless with suspense and anxiety, but never so hopeful as now.

Nobody ever enjoyed better weather anywhere on earth than Kansas has had all this month. This is a big, broad statement, but it is not a bit extravagant.

The Oursler brick may be, and we hope are, all right. The Record never “runs down” other people’s things. But, not knowing anything about them and as Marion has just opened a newly-burnt kiln which is a little bit superior to anything of the kind ever before made in Kansas. We think it is prudent and right for us and our friends to use these brick which we know to be good.

Our churches are making unusual preparations for the reception of Santa Claus, and as a natural consequence, the smiles of the little ones grow long and anxious.
