A Big Scheme

The Commercial Banking and Trust Company of Marion is erecting some mammoth corn cribs in the North Park addition, on the line of the Chingawasa road, for the storage of corn upon which they propose to loan money to farmers who prefer this method to selling their corn at present prices. The bank proposes to accommodate the farmers to the extent of 100,000 bushels, and has already contracted with one farmer for 10,000 bushels.

The Street Committee of the Council has been ordered to request Mr. A.D. Billings to have circulated a petition for a 6-foot cinder sidewalk on Elm street from foot of hill to top of same, and present same to Council at next meeting.

Mr. Freeland, the enterprising Rink Liveryman, has “put on” a handsome new cab which runs to and from all trains and to all parts of the city. Orders left at the stable promptly attended to.

We are not to be behind other schools in the matter of flags on the school building. The pupils of our schools are enthusiastic over the matter. They will contribute themselves and some of them will call on the citizens in a few days to solicit contributions. We feel sure that there is patriotism sufficient in our city to raise a fund large enough to purchase and erect two nice flags, one on each building.
